What Can You Put Down?

Sometimes I like to watch videos on YouTube just for fun. There are a few YouTubers that I watch somewhat regularly. One does organizing videos. I really enjoy her. She is relatable, and while Marie Kondo is cool and everything, I know myself, and my YouTuber is a better match for me. She does a quick video, and then if you stay to the end, she often shares a short anecdote from her life. I saw one the other day where she shared that while she was making over a friend’s craft room, there was a point where she was hanging something on the wall. She held it up on the wall, and her friend left to get a level to make sure it was straight. It was a good 10 or 15 minutes that the YouTuber held the pegboard on the wall waiting for her friend to return. Not sure if I am explaining this well…she had video footage of her standing there holding it on the wall. When her friend returned, the friend asked, “Why you didn’t set it down?”

The YouTuber is sharing the story because it is funny. She is quirky and fun like that—One of the things I love about her. However, I started thinking about how this is an excellent metaphor for life? How many times are we standing in an awkward position, holding something up to the wall, waiting for something to happen? We don’t even realize that we can set it down, even if it is a short period of time, and we have plans to pick it back up again later. Or there will be a need to pick it back up later. Who knows? Maybe there will be no need to pick it back up again, but at least we set it down. We get some relief, even for a moment.
